(Dearborn County, Ind.) – The first of southeast Indiana’s county fairs opens its midway to visitors Monday.

The 2014 Dearborn County 4-H and Community Fair holds its Opening Day ceremonies at the fairgrounds in Lawrenceburg starting at 5:00 p.m. Monday’s fair admission is only $6 per person with the price increasing to $8 for Tuesday through the end of the fair on Saturday.

Admission to the fair includes all the grandstand events, rides, musical entertainment, educational shows and more. Door prizes totaling $200 to $300 in value will be awarded each night.

The midway opens at 5:00 p.m. each evening of the fair, except on Saturday when it will open at 4:00 p.m.

As much as rides and shows, the fair is known for showcasing 4-H projects which members have worked hard on over the past year. 4-H members began checking in their animals over the weekend.  The first show, the poultry show, begins bright and early and 8:00 a.m. Monday.

The fair royalty contest starts at 7:00 p.m. followed by the queen pageant at 7:30.

For those looking for some uncommon entertainment, there’s a blowin’ coal competition and truck show. Spectators can watch as pickup truck owners are invited to show off the amount of black smoke they can blow out of their tailpipes or stacks.
