(Batesville, Ind.) – Domestic violence cases are being seen more frequently in Ripley County.

Prosecutor Ric Hertel held his annual State of the Streets address in Batesville earlier this week.

The Batesville Herald-Tribune reports that Hertel said the prosecutor’s office has seen 74 domestic violence cases in the first 10 months of 2017.

That compares with just 40 cases in all of 2016.

Ripley County has also experienced an increase in burglary and robbery cases this year.

Hertel says three-quarters of crimes have involve either drugs or alcohol.

Overall, the county has seen 606 criminal cases through the first 10 months of 2017, down from 731 a year ago.
