Rising Sun Schools Approve Random Student Drug Testing
By Katlyn Reece
(Rising Sun, Ind.) – Students in Rising Sun will have to submit to random drug testing next year.
The Rising Sun-Ohio County Community Schools Board of Trustees unanimously decided to implement a drug testing policy in a board meeting Tuesday.
Beginning in the 2014-2015 school year, students in Rising Sun will have to submit to random drug testing in order to participate in extracurricular activities. The policy will randomly test student drivers and students involved in extracurricular activities such as athletics, clubs, and after school dances.
Students will be allowed to refuse testing but they will not be allowed to participate in the activity if they do, said superintendent Steve Patz.
Rising Sun will join Lawrenceburg and South Dearborn as local school corporations which have approved drug testing policies in the past year.
