The old Vevay School may be demolished unless somebody steps up financially to save it.

(Vevay, Ind.) – The old Vevay school building will come down.

Earlier this week, the Switzerland County School Board voted 6-1 to proceed with plans to demolish the empty school building on Seminary Street.

The Vevay Reveille Enterprise reports that board member Jill Cord voted against the demolition, wishing to see the former school building saved and turned into a museum or community building,

Board members reasoned that funds should be used to benefit today’s students, rather than saving an old building. The board could rescind its motion to demolish the building if preservationists find a financial solution for the old school before it meets the wrecking ball.

The building had previously served as an elementary school, high school, and administration office. It was vacated after problems with sewage in the basement and asbestos.
