(Aurora, Ind.) – The South Dearborn Middle School Showchoir is adjusting to a change this year, but the club hopes that the community will give it a boost during an upcoming fundraising event.

Last year, the middle school in Aurora decided to change the setup of its showchoir – the feeder of South Dearborn High School’s award-winning Opening Knight Show Choir – to include only eighth grade students. This is the first year that the middle school has not allowed seventh graders to join the choir group.

This past March, South Dearborn Community Schools Superintendent John Mehrle explained that the middle school show choir was being changed from a class to a club. He attributed the change to a schedule conflict with the middle school’s new class scheduling format.

China Pittenger is the parent of a showcase student and vice president of the showcase board. She’s asked Eagle 99.3 to help the organization in selling tickets for its “SDMS Showcase Dinner and a Show” fundraising dinner on Sunday, November 24 at the South Dearborn Middle School.

“Because we only have one grade this year, our ticket sales are really struggling and we have no budget for advertising,” Pittenger said.

The “SDMS Showcase Dinner and a Show” doors open at 3:30 p.m. and the show starts at 4:00 Sunday. Tickets are $15 for the event. The dinner menu of pork loin, brown sugar ham and all the trimmings is catered by the Rolling Pin.

“We offer a wonderful catered dinner and entertainment.  We bring in outside acts as well as our own Showcase talent,” said Pittenger.

The outside entertainment will be bluegrass band Rural Route 2, all-boys vocal group Synchronized Serenade, and performer D.J. Adkins.

Tickets can be reserved by texting (513) 255-7577 or emailing monte.dole -at- sdcsc.k12.in.us.
