By Mike Perleberg
(Sunman, Ind.) – Visitation will be held this evening for a Sunman teen who died in an apparent drowning last week.
Thomas Herring, 19, was found dead in a neighbor’s pond on Wednesday, April 30. Indiana Conservation Officers weren’t sure why Herring, not believed to be a strong swimmer, ventured into the water.
Herring had planned to attend Purdue University to pursue a career in landscape architecture.
According to his obituary, Herring’s visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday, May 5 at Cook Rosenberger Funeral Home in Sunman. A burial mass will be held Tuesday, May 6 at St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Sunman, where Herring was a member.
Herring’s family has requested that memorial donations be made to Cross Catholic Outreach or Bishop Brute College Seminary.
Thomas is survived by parents Grant and Rose Herring of Sunman; brothers Grant Jr., Christian, Joseph, John, and sister Marie; and grandparents Bob and Dolores Rolfes.
