(Lawrenceburg, Ind.) – There is new information about the death of an inmate being held at the Dearborn County Law Enforcement Center.

Dearborn County Sheriff Mike Kreinhop has identified the victim as Leland C. Houston II, 49, of Sunman.

Houston’s death is under investigation by the Dearborn County Sheriff’s Department and the Dearborn County Special Crimes Unit. According to the sheriff’s department, on Thursday morning Houston was found unresponsive in his jail cell.

CPR was administered by jail personnel. Houston was then transported by Lawrenceburg EMS to Dearborn County Hospital  where he was pronounced dead.

Investigators do not suspect foul play in Houston’s death. A cause of death is still under investigation with an autopsy to be performed to help make that determination.

Houston had been booked into the jail on Sunday, February 9. He was indicted by a Dearborn County Grand Jury on February 7 on two counts of Rape (Class B felony) and a single count of Incest (Class C felony). The charges were only allegations, as his case was still pending in Dearborn Circuit Court.
