(Aurora, Ind.) – A driver who fell asleep at the wheel may have noticed his pickup truck sitting at the wrong angle when he awoke.

A pickup truck driven by Joshua A. Ross, 31, of Aurora, overturned on U.S. 50 near Billingsley Drive at around 4:15 p.m. Wednesday, said Aurora Police Sgt. Shane Slack.

Officers arrived on the scene to find the vehicle resting on its side face westbound in the eastbound lanes.

A woman who witnessed the crash, Tracy Cochran, told officers that the vehicle was smoking upon her arrival. With help from another motorist, she was able to climb into the truck and shut off the ignition and remove Ross

Ross, who was the only person in the vehicle at the time of the crash, was taken to Dearborn County Hospital where he was evaluated and released. He told police he had fallen asleep at the wheel and lost control of the truck.

The crash remains under investigation.

Aurora Police were assisted at the scene by Aurora Fire Department, Aurora EMS, and the Dearborn County Sheriff’s Department.
