(Boone County, Ky.) – Boone County Sheriff’s Office investigators say a 22-year-old motorist was killed in a late night crash Monday.

Deputies are citing speed and wet roads and contributing factors in the wreck on U.S. 42 near Hicks Pike. It was almost 11:00 p.m. when a 2001 Pontiac Grand Am driven by Bennett Allen III, of Union, crossed the center line and hit an oncoming 2015 Jeep Compass driven by Teresa Taylor-Lanigan, 42, of Union.

Allen was pronounced dead at the scene.

Taylor-Lanigan was transported to St. Elizabeth Hospital in Florence with non-life threatening injuries.

Deputies are continuing the investigate the accident. They say both drivers were wearing seatbelts.

The crash kept U.S. 42 closed for more than three hours overnight.
