Shayna Lacey, the driver injured in Wednesday’s crash on U.S. 50 in Aurora, is further explaining the wreck the landed her in the hospital.
“Anybody could have made that mistake,” she tells Eagle 99.3.
Lacey said it is true that a spider landed on her steering wheel as she drove on the busy highway. As she reached for an object in her car to swat the spider with, she became distracted and began to drift towards another vehicle.
“I swerved because I was trying to avoid injuring anybody else,” Lacey said, admitting she probably should have pulled over to deal with the pest.
The vehicle then went across the eastbound lanes and struck the porch of an unoccupied home.
Lacey said the wreck resulted in a broken spine in two places. She was taken to Dearborn County Hospital then later transferred to University of Cincinnati Medical Center, where she remains in recovery Thursday afternoon.
