state-road-262-sign(Dillsboro, Ind.) – A mid-May reopening is eyed for State Road 262 near Dillsboro, according to State Representative Randy Frye.

Portions of the highway sank up to 18 inches during heavy rains during the first week of April. The Indiana Department of Transportation has had had the road shut down to traffic since.

Frye (R-Greensburg) tells Eagle 99.3 that the company contracted to complete the repairs of State Road 262 plans to start slope stabilization on Monday. The process performed by GSI Contracts will take approximately one week to complete, weather permitting.

Once the slope is ready, INDOT maintenance crews will replace two drainage pipes. That could happen as soon as May 5 and should take about a week to complete.

INDOT plans to pave the slide area the following week, which could begin as a soon as May 12. If all goes well, the road could reopen in the middle of the month, Frye said.
