SR 48 Bridge Closes Monday

Press release from Indiana Department of Transportation

(Ripley County, Ind.) – Efforts to rehabilitate the State Road 48 bridge at Ripley Creek, located three miles west of S.R. 101 in Ripley County near the Dearborn County line, are scheduled to begin Monday (JUNE 2)—weather permitting.

The Indiana Department of Transportation will close S.R. 48 early Monday morning at the bridge site.  An official detour, which may be in place until August 1, routes motorists around the closure via S.R. 129, S.R. 350 and S.R. 101.

The R.A. Myers Construction Company is the state’s contractor for this $285,825 Seymour District bridge project.

Work focuses on placing an epoxy polymer overlay atop the S.R. 48 bridge deck in order to seal it from moisture intrusion and UV ray degradation.  This 2-lift overlay will be topped with chips of flint stone for a friction course that will resist wearing away.  The result is better maneuverability and stopping capabilities for the motoring public.

In addition to the overlay application, repairs will be made to the bridge deck, and a concrete wall will be installed in place of the existing aluminum bridge rail.
