SR 56 Crash Claims Vevay Man’s Life

(Jefferson County, Ind.) – A Vevay man died in a crash on State Road 56 in Jefferson County Saturday evening.

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department responded to an accident on East State Road 56 about 1/4 mile east of Sandy Beach at about 10:15 p.m. On arrival, responders found a head on collision involving a full-size truck and an SUV.

The driver of the truck, Elden Hambrick, 55, of Vevay, died of his injuries.

The driver of the SUV, William F. Haller, 34, of Sellersburg, had to be stabilized before being removed from the vehicle. After being extricated from the vehicle he was flown from the scene by Statflite to the Unversity Hospital in Louisville where he was listed in stable condition.

The road was closed for several hours so that a crash reconstructionist from the Indiana State Police could investigate.
