(Dearborn County, Ind.) – A bridge replacement project in Dearborn County will begin on Monday, while funding has been awarded to the county for a separate bridge.

Dearborn County Engineer Todd Listermann says work will begin on the Collier Ridge Road Bridge #55 replacement on June 30. Crews are planning to complete the project on December 19.

Bridge #55, also referred to as the Guilford Red Bridge, was built in 1920. It has been closed since 2010 due to a broken beam that was irreplaceable.

In May, the Indiana Department of Transportation awarded the $1.17 million contract for the bridge replacement to Force Construction. Dearborn County must provide 20 percent of the cost in matching funds.

Another Dearborn County bridge will also be replaced. Listerman said that INDOT announced Monday that the county has been awarded $900,000 for the design, right of way, and construction of a replacement for County Bridge #5 on East Laughery Creek Road, located just east of Gregory Road. The county must provide $225,000 in matching funds.

The Bridge #5 project is scheduled for construction in 2018.
