road-construction-graphic(Ohio County, Ind.) – State Road 56 between Aurora and Rising Sun will be closed to all traffic for about a 14 hour period later this month.

It’s part of the highway realignment project on SR 56 at Thuermer Hollow Road in Ohio County.

The highway will be closed for 14 hours overnight on Monday, July 21 or Tuesday, July 22, depending on weather. The closure will start at 7:00 p.m. and should end at 9:00 a.m. the following morning.

Motorists will need to plan an alternate route for those few hours.

The $3.7 million road project by state contractor J.R. Jurgensen Company of Cincinnati will raise part of the highway 14 feet, requiring the relocation of 67,000 yards of dirt. The project recently entered phase two. When it is completed later this year, the SR 56 curve will be moderated and the intersection with Thuermer Hollow Road will be moved 100 feet to the west.

Wonder why they don't do this closure over the weekend instead. I would think it would be less of an inconvenience to take a joy ride on a weekend instead of disrupting your commute to work.
