Update posted Tuesday, August 19 at 7:18 a.m.:

Police believe alcohol may have been a factor in a crash on State Road 148 near Aurora Sunday evening.

According to the Dearborn County Sheriff’s Department, Jose Juan Herrera-Huerta, 46, of Batesville, was driving on State Road 148 near Briarwood Drive at around 6:03 p.m. Passengers in the vehicle were Jose Huerta-Ojeda, 26, and Salvador Govea, age unknown, also from Batesville.

Herrera-Huerta ran the vehicle off the road, where it overturned. Govea was trapped inside.

After being freed, Govea was flown by Air Care to UC Medical Center. Huerta-Ojeda was taken to the same hospital for a broken neck.

Herrera-Huerta was taken to Dearborn County Hospital where he was treated for minor cuts and complaints of pain.

Deputies said it was determined through an interpreter that Herrera-Huerta had been drinking prior to the crash. Charges are pending upon subpoenas for medical records and officers meeting with the county prosecutor.

Aurora Fire Department, Manchester Fire Department, and Aurora Police Department also worked the accident scene.
