Mayor of Bright

The three finalists for the 2012 Mayor of Bright are (clockwise from top left) Gunner, Sophie, and Max.

(Bright, Ind.) – Three dogs bested other canines, cats, and a fiberglass horse to become the three finalists for Mayor of Bright.

The second annual Mayor of Bright contest is a fundraiser for the Bright Volunteer Fire Department and Bright Integrity Free and Accepted Masons Lodge 763. Each vote cast in the election costs $1 and voters can cast as many ballots as they like.

Primary voting with 21 total candidates began June 8 and ended June 30. Dogs Max, Gunner, and Sophie earned the most votes to become the three finalists.

Now, the dollar-a-vote campaign continues through the end of the Bright Community Festival which takes place July 27 and 28. Votes can be cast at the festival or anytime during regular hours at ten Bright-area businesses.

The winning candidate will be announced on Sunday, July 29 at 1:00 p.m. at the Bright Fire House. That pet will receive a collar proclaiming him or her as the 2013 Honorary Mayor of Bright, a key to the city, and a food bowl with their name engraved on it.

The second place candidate will be named Vice Mayor and the third most popular candidate will become Secretary of “Steak.”
