(Florence, Ky.) – A train derailment in Florence is under investigation.

Four train cars derailed near the intersection of Empire Drive and Bluegrass Drive just before 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, according to the Boone County Sheriff’s Office.

The empty rail cars had reached the end of the track at which point they derailed, crossed Empire Drive, continued into an earth embankment, and stopped in the middle of Bluegrass Drive.

Nobody was injured, police said.  The Kentucky State Highway Road Department had also been notified and responded to verify the integrity of the roadway.

Norfolk Southern, the railroad company, is investigating the cause of the derailment.
