Turfway Park Planning $25M Renovation
By Mike Perleberg
(Florence, Ky.) – Turfway Park in Florence is going to get a major facelift.
A $25 million remodeling project is planned for the grandstand at the horse racing track, reports industry publication BloodHorse.
General manager Chip Bach presented the remodeling plan to the Kentucky Horse Racing Commission on Tuesday, February 20. It would alter the front entrance to make the current second story the new entry into the grandstand. Space would be added for slot machine-like historical racing games and simulcast betting.
Bach added that Turfway plans to request approval of 500 games.
The commission had previously granted permission to Turfway for 250 games. However, Bach said, structural issues discovered in the facility in 2015 required that to be addressed before the games could be added.
No timetable for the renovations was given, according to BloodHorse.
