Update posted at 10:30 a.m.:
Police have identified twin girls that died Tuesday evening after wandering away from their home.
The Dearborn County Sheriff’s Department say the victims were Jocelyn and Shaylyn Spurlock, age two.
The sheriff’s department says the children were at their home at 5456 Dutch Hollow Road when they went missing around 6:00 p.m. Dearborn County Sheriff’s deputies and Aurora Fire Department firefighters were called to search at about 6:49. A neighbor and firefighter located the girls in an above-ground swimming pool two doors down at 10798 Elm Circle about 2 1/2 hours after the report was made.
Fire and EMS personnel immediately began CPR on Jocelyn and Shaylyn. They were then transported to the emergency room at Dearborn County Hospital, where they were later pronounced dead.
Other agencies assisting in Tuesday evening’s search were Dearborn County EMA and Dearborn County Water Rescue, along with a police K9 unit.
The girls’ parents are Brad and Breanna Spurlock. Relatives say the couple had just been married on Saturday.
The twins’ deaths mark the second time this month the family has had to deal with tragedy. Brad Spurlock’s step-father, Richard Hunter, had died in a logging accident in Switzerland County on April 1.
At least two donation pages for the family’s funeral expenses has been set up at https://fundly.com/brea-s-angels?ft_src=fbshare and http://www.gofundme.com/86tul4. Funeral arrangements have not been announced.

(Aurora, Ind.) – The Aurora community is in mourning after the tragic deaths of a set of young twin girls.
The girls were reported missing from their home on Elm Circle, just of Dutch Hollow Road, at about 6:00 p.m. Tuesday, according to the Dearborn County Sheriff’s Department. Following a search of the area, the twins were each found just before 8:30 in a swimming pool located on Dutch Hollow Road.
The girls were each rushed to Dearborn County Hospital, where they would be pronounced dead.
Various reports state that the swimming pool was covered by a tarp. It is unclear if that pool was surrounded by a fence.
The Dearborn County Sheriff’s Department has not released the names of the victims. Authorities have not said whether charges may be filed as the investigation is ongoing.
hello my name is mary i lost my brother last year and we have started a non-profit organization we are having a benefit june 21st at sunman park and was wondering if the family would be ok if we included the two little girls in the benefit to try and raise some money for their family if someone knows the family and would like to talk to me about this my email is email@example.com i am so sorry for your families loss prays are with your family from my family
I am amazed at all the SUPER parents in our community. Those who have never turned around to find their child ran to ‘hide’ from you. I wasn’t a SUPER parent. My son got away from me a few times, and so have my grand daughters, in a store hiding in clothing or at home sneaking off to my mom and dads and even once from my parents going down the driveway to go play with his cousin. I know all you SUPER parents have never had that happen….
But even though you haven’t, you may want to keep your comments to yourself. Your comments are in no way helpful to people who are dealing with the loss of loved ones taken too soon. You know the Bible (a book you obviously haven’t read) states in Mathew 7 : “Judge not, that you be not judged. 2 For with what judgment you judge, you will be judged; and with the measure you use, it will be measured back to you.” Not only should people pray for the family of these children. They should also pray for you.
@KarenTillisFaust Thank you for sharing this. Obviously some people are more concerned with creating drama where drama isn't needed, rather than doing something constructive to try and prevent it from happening again.
@KarenTillisFaust To Karen: Please retract your insensitive comment!!! Whether or not that is true, This is not the time or place for that statement!!!
@KarenTillisFaust I am so glad you are perfect and pray that no ACCIDENT like this ever happens to you !
@KerriLynnCourter The weather is really nice.
It's the perfect time for that type of announcement. When would be a better time to help prevent this from happening again?
Do you really think the parents or anyone involved in this tragedy is actually reading these posts, to be offended in the first place?
Wouldn't it be worth it if just one child was saved, by just one person reading the post and learning from it?
@teresalf @KarenTillisFaust I aree with teresalf!!! CRAP HAPPENS!!! Whether or not it is preventable is not even the question here!! If we as humans didn't make mistakes, they wouldn't put erasers on pencils. Don't be so quick to judge someone else.........you may find yourself in the same situation. And speaking of being human, find some compassion.....and avoid saying stupid, insensitive comments, which by the way is preventable.!!
@KarenTillisFaust @RBAE76 I want to say THANK YOU for this information as I know ppl with newborns and that are pregnant. Secondly, in this instance, I am not confident it would have helped with the tarp being there. You see Karen we are Northerners and we close our pools in the winter. So it is not only cold, possibly merky, but have you ever put a heavy rock on top of a piece of plastic wrap covering a bowl. I am not saying that is what did or didn't happen as I was not there. I am just saying, while your we thank you for sharing valuable information, it just may not have been helpful in this instance. Finally, as a close friend of the family, we would appreciate if you are a God fearing Christian, you would remember the entire family in your prayers as these little sweeties were living sunshine and their eyes smiled. They made you smile even if you didn't feel like it. They danced to Gandham Style and it was so cute. See these twins were alive and our children and grandchildren. They were loved deeply and very well cared for. When my 18 yr old was 2, I turned my back for a second and he was in the neighbors yard 3 doors down. I understand you are being logical and trying to help, but please let us MOURN the LOSS of our Blonde Curly Haired Angels please. Yours Truly," Aunt " Pam
@RBAE76 @teresalf@KarenTillisFaust It is very good that she is teaching this to young children. This is not the forum to bring this to light. If the family does see a comment like this it will not be helpful to them after the fact that their beloved children are gone. Use a little more tact in these situations.
@pinkheart @teresalf @KarenTillisFaust I live in Florida where drowning is the #1 cause of death in children 4 and under. I have taught more than 400 children the life saving skills in 8 years. I get up everyday to teach and educate people about Drowning Prevention. I am devastated when I hear of a drowning but it is why I am passionate about teaching and educating. Please check out www.infantswim.com or www.safestartuas.org where children at 6 months learn to roll over and float until they can be rescued. At 1 year they will learn to swim-float-swim to safety. Do you know how to perform CPR, Do you know the multi-layers of safety to prevent a drowning? Please share our sites and youtube video on your social media sites and ask your friends to share too. If we can save just one child and family from this tragedy then their lives lost are not in vain. I'm sorry you misunderstood my comment. I live each day to save another life!!
