(Batesville, Ind.) – Two Batesville High School students will have part of their college education paid for thanks to the Ripley County Sheriff’s Office.

The Sheriff’s Office announced Thursday they have awarded $1000 scholarships to Jonathan Kunkel and Matthew Lents.

The scholarships are funded by the Mums for Education Program. The scholarship program was created in 2015 for students pursuing further education in criminal justice.

Funds for the scholarships are raised by selling mums, which are grown by female inmates at the Ripley County Jail.

Ripley County Sheriff Jeff Cumberworth wishes best of luck to both scholarship recipients in their studies and careers.
