(Patriot, Ind.) – A crash in Switzerland County Wednesday evening was so violent it sheared one of the two vehicles involved in half.

At about 5:30, two vehicles collided on State Road 156 at Sand Run Road near Patriot, according to Colin English with the Posey Township Fire Department.

Firefighters used the “jaws of life” to free one of the two drivers. That unidentified victim was then flown by Air Methods Life Flight to an area hospital, where his or her condition was not released.

The second driver received only minor injuries and was taken to a local hospital by ambulance.

The crash remains under investigation by the Switzerland County Sheriff’s Office. Others agencies assisting at the scene were Patriot Volunteer Fire Department and Switzerland County EMS.
