(Aurora, Ind.) – Two structure fires in less than 48 hours kept Aurora firefighters and assisting agencies busy over the weekend.
The first fire occurred in a garage at 1113 Sunnyside Avenue at 9:13 p.m. on Thursday, July 3. Firefighters arrived to find the garage fully involved.
Thanks to the work of 25 firefighters from Aurora and Lawrenceburg, the blaze was prevented from spreading to the nearby residence, limiting the house damage to the porch and siding. The garage was a total loss.
The source of the fire was tracked to the garage’s attic. It has been ruled accidental.
One firefighter at the scene suffered an ankle injury. He was taken by Aurora Life Squad to Dearborn County Hospital where he was treated and released.
Aurora firefighters were called into action again when a structure fire was reported at 436 ½ Park Avenue on Saturday, July 5 at 12:14 a.m. The resident and an Aurora Police officer had extinguished the flames with two fire extinguishers before firefighters arrived.
The fire was located outside the home and caused minor damage to the siding. It was ruled accidental.
Lawrenceburg Life Squad assisted at the scene.
