(Lawrenceburg, Ind.) – An attack on a Lawrenceburg Police officer has resulted in Attempted Murder, Intimidation of Law Enforcement, and several more charges against a Greendale man.

On November 3, Lawrenceburg officers were called to a domestic battery report at a home on Randy Avenue, according to a Lawrenceburg Police Department press release. Officer Morgan Hedrick was the first on scene and was told by witnesses that Joseph Schuler had battered a woman.

Schuler, 27, was behaving erratically. Prior to Hedrick’s arrival, Schuler was allegedly making threats to take an officer’s firearm and kill everyone, the release stated. Officers also observed blood on Schuler’s hands.

Hedrick attempted to detain Schuler for the safety of everybody involved. However, Schuler allegedly resisted and struck Officer Hedrick. The police release said Schuler was threatening to kill Hedrick and attempted to take the officer’s firearm.

Additional officers then arrived and restrained Schuler. The suspect was transported to jail at the Dearborn County Law Enforcement Center.

Hedrick sustained injuries in the incident. He was treated and released from Dearborn County Hospital.

Schuler is charged with Attempted Murder, Battery Resulting In Serious Bodily Injury, Intimidation on Law Enforcement, Criminal Confinement, Strangulation, Battery Resulting in Bodily Injury, and Criminal Mischief. Jail officials said Schuler will make his initial appearance in court sometime Tuesday.
