UPDATE: Police Seek Car, Gas Thieves
Update posted at 2:18 p.m.:
Lawrenceburg Police have revealed more information on a case that had them searching for two males early Tuesday morning.
According to a press release from the police department, officers responded to a report of gas being stolen from the UDF Mobil station on U.S. 50 at Tanners Creek Drive. A witness told officers that the suspect vehicle was a red Jeep Wrangler. The witness observed the theft and followed the Jeep to Aurora before losing sight of it.
As police would later learn, the Jeep had been reported stolen from Fairfield, Ohio. The plates it had were also stolen from Fairfield.
Police from multiple agencies set up a perimeter in the area to search for the suspects. At one point the officers did make contact with the suspects, but they again managed to avoid capture.
Lawrenceburg Police say they believe the suspects may have stolen a second vehicle to get away. The vehicle, a gold Saturn with Indiana plates 112 AKB, was taken from Hanover Avenue in Aurora.
The suspects remain at large as of Tuesday afternoon. They are described as white males in their late teens or early 20s, both with a thin build. One of the suspects was a black sleeveless shirt and khaki shorts.
Anybody with information is asked to contact Lawrenceburg Police Lt. Don Combs at (812) 537-2284.
Lawrenceburg Police were assisted in their investigation by the Lawrenceburg Police K9 Unit, Aurora Police, Dearborn County Sheriff’s Department, and Dearborn County Water Rescue.
