Veterans Day Observances Across Eagle Country

(Lawrenceburg, Ind.) – Mark Twain wrote, “In the beginning of a change, the patriot is a scarce man, and brave, and hated and scorned. When his cause succeeds, the timid join him, for then it costs nothing to be a patriot.”

Americans in Eagle Country and nationwide will take time to pay homage to military veterans on Veterans Day, Saturday, November 11.

Aurora, Indiana – The Aurora Eagles will hold a Veterans Day Open House from noon until 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 11. Free lunch will be served to veterans, in addition to being offered one year of complementary membership.

Batesville, Indiana – The Batesville VFW Post 3183 will hold an open house from 3:00 p.m. until closing on Saturday, November 11.

Brookville, Indiana – The Franklin County Arts Council will present a patriotic Veterans Day Show at the Franklin County High School Lew Wallace Auditorium on Saturday, November 11 at 7:00 p.m. The Tom Daugherty Orchestra will perform a USO-style concert, featuring a 20-piece orchestra with vocalists, including an appearance by “The Andrews Sisters.” Veterans and students will be admitted free of charge. Tickets at the door for the general public are $10 per person.

Brookville, Indiana – Brookville American Legion will host a free breakfast for veterans and their families from 8:00 a.m. until noon on Saturday, November 11. A program will follow at 1:00 p.m., sponsored by Sons of the American Legion and Ladies Auxiliary.

Harrison, Ohio – Yearger-Benson Memorial American Legion Post 199 will host a free lunch on Saturday, November 9 at 1:00 p.m.

Lawrenceburg, Indiana – Lawrenceburg Community Schools will hold a program at Lawrenceburg High School’s gymnasium on Friday, November 10 at 2:00 p.m. CES Choral Fest, GMS and LHS Choirs, and LHS Band will perform. First Sgt. Michael W. Jones will be a special guest speaker.

Lawrenceburg, Indiana – Veterans Day ceremony at the Dearborn County Veterans Memorial on Saturday, November 11 at 11:00 a.m. Korean War Veterans Association is organizing the event. Retired Sgt. Maj. Thomas Pollack will be the special guest speaker.

Milan, Indiana – Milan Elementary School will hold a Veterans Day program in the school gym at 8:15 a.m. on Friday, November 10.

Mt. Carmel, Indiana – Mount Carmel School will host a ceremony at 9:00 a.m. on Friday, November 10. Veterans and their spouses, or special guests, are invited to enjoy a memorable program hosted by the students and staff. Pie and refreshments will be served afterward.

Rising Sun, Indiana – Rising Sun Schools will host a program at 8:30 a.m. on Friday, November 10.

Sunman, Indiana – Sunman Elementary School will hold a program at 8:45 a.m. on Friday, November 10. A free breakfast for veterans starts at 8:15.

Versailles, Indiana – At 10:30 a.m. a Veteran’s Memorial Service will be held at the Ripley County Veterans’ monument on the courthouse square in Versailles. Everyone is welcome to participate in these events.

Versailles, Indiana – Versailles American Legion Post 173 is inviting local veterans to a program and dinner at the legion post at 6:00 p.m. Saturday, November 11. Food and cake will be provided. All past and present Marines are asked to arrive by 5:45. Service members and veterans of all branches are invited.

Versailles, Indiana – Indiana’s state parks, including Versailles State Park, will offer free admission to veterans and active duty military personnel on Saturday, November 11.
