Vevay Councilman South Picked As New County Commissioner
By Mike Perleberg
(Vevay, Ind.) – A new county commissioner is poised to fill an upcoming vacancy in Switzerland County.
Last month, District 1 County Commissioner John Haskell announced he would be resigning effective June 1st as he is moving out of the county.
Switzerland County Republicans caucused May 8 and selected Josh South to fill the vacancy on the Board of Commissioners, the Vevay Reveille-Enterprise reports. The Vevay Town Council president and county GOP chairman beat out five other candidates who were seeking the position during the caucus.
South will complete Haskell’s term, which runs through 2016.
He plans to resign his position on Vevay Town Council effective May 29, meaning that county Republicans will need to hold a second caucus to fill that vacancy. The caucus has been scheduled for May 22 at the GOP headquarters, 106 East Main Street, in Vevay, the newspaper report stated.
South’s term on town council runs through 2015.
