(Madison, Ind.) – A 100-foot concrete bridge section on the Kentucky side of the Milton-Madison Bridge has been slid into place.

The slide began about 11:30 Thursday morning. By two hours later, the large portion of bridge deck was in place. You can see a time-lapse video of the slide below, courtesy of the Milton-Madison Bridge Project.

The slide of this bridge section is a precursor to the slide of the main half-mile-long steel truss section of the bridge, which is expected to take place later this month. It will set a world record for the largest bridge slide ever, moving the 2,428 foot long span 55 feet laterally all at once.

The U.S. 421 bridge over the Ohio River between Indiana and Kentucky remains closed until the bridge slide is complete. Traffic is detoured to the Markland Dam Bridge or the I-65 bridge in Louisville.
