(Highland Heights, Ky.) – If the Northern Kentucky University men’s basketball team is going to advance in the NCAA Tournament, it will have to be in Cinderella fashion.

The Norse drew in-state opponent UK in a #2-#15 seed matchup in the South region of the NCAA bracket revealed Sunday evening.

Watching from the Student Union on NKU’s Highland Heights campus, the team and fans celebrated when their name appeared on the selection show.

NKU and Kentucky will play their first round game on Friday, March 17 at 9:40 p.m. in Indianapolis.

The tournament game will be only the second meeting of the two men’s programs. They previously faced each other on November 10, 2013 with UK winning 93-63.

The Norse will be making their first trip to the NCAA Tournament, having compiled a 24-10 overall record and winning their first Horizon League Tournament Championship last week.
