(Whitewater Township, Oh.) – Water rescue crews helped a woman stranded in the Great Miami River to shore Sunday night.

Crews were called to the U.S. 50 bridge near Valley Junction Road in Whitewater Township  just before 9:00 p.m. for a report of two people in the rapidly rising river water.

Brad Dey was able to swim to safety, but his wife, 23-year-old Jovena Dey, was stuck clinging to debris in the water lodged in a bridge support. Rescue crews managed to lower a life jacket to Dey.

Dey was pulled to shore by rescue line.

The couple was not taken to the hospital, the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office said.
