(Gallatin County, Ky.) - Rain-slickened roads are being blamed for a deadly crash in Gallatin County.
Kentucky State Police say Jeffrey Givens, 51, of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, was driving a truck hauling a horse trailer on Interstate 71 at the 68 mile marker Sunday morning.
The truck dipped off the side of the highway, then jackknifed and struck a guardrail. The truck and trailer overturned before coming to a rest.
Givens was pronounced dead at the scene.
A passenger – Tim Taylor, 53, of La Vergne, Tennessee – suffered non-life threatening injuries. He had to be mechanically removed from the wreckage before being transported to University of Cincinnati Medical Center by Gallatin County EMS.
Troopers said that three horses also died in the crash.
I-71 southbound in Gallatin County was closed for about 4 ½ hours following the accident.
Both Givens and Taylor were wearing their seatbelts, investigators said.
