Overturned Tanker Causes Shut Down of U.S. 421 in Ripley County

The accident took place early Friday morning.

(Ripley County, Ind.) – A tanker crash shut down U.S. 421 for several hours early this morning.

Ripley County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the crash on U.S. 421 near the northern county line around 5:41 a.m.

Deputies say the tanker, operated by Nathan Lachner of Mainesville, Ohio, lost control and rolled on its side. The impact with the ground punctured the tanker which contained a lime slurry.

The spill was contained to the crash area and U.S. 421 remained closed until around 10:00 a.m.

No injuries were reported. 

IDEM, Napoleon Fire, Indiana State Police, and the Decatur County Sheriff’s Office assisted at the scene.
