(Boone County, Ky.) – A juvenile suspect is in custody following a stabbing in northern Kentucky.

Boone County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the incident in the 100 block of Deer Trace Drive in Walton around 6:00 p.m. Thursday.

Upon arrival, deputies located the victim, Joshua Oliver, with a single stab wound to the abdomen. While on the scene, deputies located and detained two possible suspects, a juvenile male, and an adult male, that had remained on the scene.

According to a news release, deputies learned that Oliver’s puppy had gotten loose outside and accidentally knocked over a young child. The mother of the child confronted Oliver and a verbal argument ensued.

At that time, a juvenile male related to the woman, inserted himself into the argument and brandished a knife. The incident escalated and the juvenile allegedly stabbed Oliver in the abdomen.

It was believed that an adult male had also assaulted Oliver. However, through witness, victim, and suspect statements, it was determined the adult did not assault Oliver and only became involved to separate him from the suspect. The adult male was not charged.

Oliver was transported to UC Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

The 17-year-old juvenile suspect is charged with Assault 1st Degree.
