Scholarship applications are due to BCEF no later than 4:30 PM on Monday, March 2.

(Batesville, Ind.) — Batesville High School (BHS) students may apply for three separate scholarships administered by the Batesville Community Education Foundation (BCEF) through one common application again this year. Awards from the James E. Fritsch Memorial Scholarship, the Mary C. Horstman Scholarship, and the Sgt. Chad Keith Memorial Scholarship will total $20,000 in 2020.

The James E. Fritsch Memorial Scholarship and the Mary C. Horstman Scholarship were established through the generosity of donors via estate planning. Three $5,000 scholarships will be awarded to recipients of the Fritsch Scholarship this year and three $1,000 winners will be chosen for the Horstman. Both of these scholarships are only available to graduating BHS students. The Fritsch scholarship requires applicants to be in the top 15% of their class, while the Horstman offers special consideration to those who have a connection to agriculture or are pursuing a trade.

Through the generosity of donations organized by Keith’s sister Nikki Glutz, BCEF’s third scholarship, the Sgt. Chad Keith Memorial Scholarship, will increase from $500 last year to $2,000 in 2020, with four recipients each receiving $500.

“Sgt. Keith was a 2000 BHS graduate who was killed in Iraq in 2003 during Operation Iraqi Freedom,” said Anne Wilson, BCEF executive director. “Applicants are required to interview a veteran and write a short essay about patriotism. BCEF is pleased to be able to expand this scholarship and honor Chad’s memory through the hard work of his family in raising funds. Graduating BHS students, as well as BHS alumni currently pursuing post-secondary education, are encouraged to apply.”

The BCEF common application, instructions, and details regarding all three scholarships may be found on the BCEF website at http://batesvilleeducationfoundation.org/programs/scholarships/. Scholarship applications are due to BCEF no later than 4:30 PM on Monday, March 2. Questions about the scholarships may be directed to Wilson at awilson@batesville.k12.in.us or 812-934-2194.
