(Bright, Ind.) – Kevin McKinney has served the Bright and surrounding communities for over two decades.

Now, the Bright Fire Department is asking community members to help him in his battle with Stage 4 Pancreatic Cancer.

Statistically, firefighters have a nine percent higher risk of being diagnosed with cancer and a 14 percent higher risk of dying from cancer compared to the general population. That is due to exposure to carcinogens in smoke and soot.

McKinney started his career with Bright Fire in 2001 as a firefighter and EMT and has served in various officer positions including Assistant EMS Chief, Captain, and Lieutenant.

He is also a loving husband and father to three daughters.

Community members to help the McKinney family by donating to the Kevin McKinney Donation Fund at the First Financial Bank in Bright or at https://gofund.me/b7192524.

Donations will help ease some of the financial stress that the family may be experiencing. It is estimated that cancer treatment can cost from $1,000 to $21,000 per month along with rising costs of groceries and fuel.
