(Milan, Ind.) - The Career Exploration Expo, hosted by Genesis: Pathways to Success and in partnership with Ripley County’s local public and private high schools, was a resounding success, welcoming 767 high school juniors and seniors on September 9. Students from across the county had the opportunity to engage with a dynamic lineup of 25 local businesses, 15 colleges, 4 military recruiters, and 3 inspiring entrepreneurs. Through hands-on activities and one-on-one conversations, the Expo opened doors to a wide range of career pathways.

Held at Milan High School, the Expo was designed to equip students with the tools and knowledge to make informed decisions about their futures. From interactive booths showcasing potential career fields to informative presentations on college admissions and the workforce, the event provided a collective view of the diverse career pathways available post-high school. Students also participated in interactive workshops on resume-building strategies, budgeting tips, speed interviews, and careers in the military and as first responders. Additionally, they gained valuable perspectives on the college experience and heard firsthand from current college students about their academic journey.

The Career Exploration Expo is designed to provide meaningful, experiential experiences, differentiating it from like-kind events from across the state. Students explored a variety of hands-on activities, allowing them to experience everything from engineering and healthcare demonstrations to cake decorating and trade skill exhibits. Local employers from manufacturing, healthcare, education, and technology sectors were present, offering insights into the skills and qualifications needed for success in the modern workforce. Military recruiters also played a pivotal role, showcasing the benefits of military service as a viable option for students seeking to serve their country while developing career skills and advancing their education.

“The growth in this event has been exponential, and it is truly wonderful to see all the engagement between the students of our future workforce and the community,” said Amelia Comer, Assistant Program Coordinator of Genesis: Pathways to Success. “Opening the door to wonderful discussions and connections while allowing students to experience their potential futures through hands-on learning opportunities is what makes the Career Exploration Expo a unique event for students in Ripley County.”

Students left the Expo feeling empowered and excited about their future career paths, armed with new knowledge and connections to help them as they move forward in their educational and professional journeys.

The Career Exploration Expo will return to Ripley County again in the fall of 2025. More information will be provided for interested businesses and colleges soon at https://genesisp2s.org/careerexplorationexpo.
