Cinco De Mayo Festival Helps Sunman Park

The Cinco de Mayo Festival and Celebration happens Saturday, May 5 at the Sunman Community Park.

(Sunman, Ind.) - You can celebrate Cinco de Mayo – the holiday to mark the Mexican Army's victory over the French at the Battle of Puebla in 1862 – at the Sunman Community Park.

The Cinco de Mayo Festival and Celebration is a fundraiser for improvements to the park. It starts at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, May 5.

Local members of the Hispanic community will prepare authentic Mexican cuisine, such as carnitas, tamales, tacos, and more. There will also be drinks including margaritas, domestic and imported beets, and soft drinks.

Everyone will be welcomed to compete in a home-run derby starting at 3:00 p.m. Participants can bring their own pitcher or one will be supplied. The cost is $10 for 10 hits, plus an extra 10 hits for $5 more. $100 prizes will be awarded to the male and female who record the longest hits. Winners of each age group will have their name displayed on a banner at the park for a year.

The Cinco de Mayo Festival and Celebration will also feature American and Mexican music, inflatables, and a photo booth.
