(Lawrenceburg, Ind.) - Dearborn County’s voter turnout could be higher than usual for an off-year election, based on how popular early voting has been.
More than 550 absentee ballots have been cast as of last Thursday according to Dearborn County Clerk of Courts Phil Weaver, the county’s election administrator.
Lawrenceburg’s city elections have driven the early turnout with 431 ballots cast through last week, good for a 12.75 percent turnout via absentee ballots. Greendale has seen 85 early votes for a 2.5 percent turnout, while Aurora has had 53 voters turn in ballots for two percent.
“I would be very surprised if we hit 50 percent. My best guess, and that is all it is, a guess, would be 35 to 40 percent,” Weaver told Eagle 99.3.
Turnout in 2007's municipal election was about 34 percent in Dearborn County.
Weaver said voters can contact his office by phone on Election Day if they have questions or concerns by calling (812) 537-1040 and follow the directions to enter an extension number, which are 1095, 1096, 1097 or 1247.
