The neighboring cities are having a look at whether consolidating their utilities will save taxpayers money.

(Lawrenceburg, Ind.) - Utility companies for Lawrenceburg and Greendale could be merging.
On Monday, Lawrenceburg Mayor Kelly Mollaun told city council members on the Lawrencbeurg Utility Board that there will be a feasibility study done to investigate the possibility of merging the two neighboring cities’ utility departments into one.
“We're seeing if there is the possibility that anything can be done cheaper,” said Mollaun.
Greendale Mayor Alan Weiss has also shared the idea with city leaders there. Utility boards for both cities would have to agree before any merger happens.
“After the details are flushed out, the results will be shared with each municipality’s utility board for discussion and vetting,” Mollaun said in reading from an agreement authorizing the study.
Lawrenceburg Municipal Utilities director Olin Clawson said if there is a merger, no utility employee from either city would be laid off. He added that a merger could result in “economy of scale” savings for the cities.
