(Lawrenceburg, Ind.) - The Dearborn Community Foundation recently awarded a $1,000 Proactive Grant to the Dearborn County Clearinghouse for Emergency Aid, Inc. on the recommendation of Board member Lisa Moorhead.
In its 26th year of helping donors make a difference, DCF is awarding 15 proactive grants of $1,000 each throughout 2024 to charitable organizations that serve Dearborn County residents. Each of the Foundation’s 15 volunteer Board members is recommending a grant. The money comes from the Foundation’s unrestricted endowment funds, established by donors to provide flexibility to address changing needs in the community over the years.
"My first thoughts in recommending the Clearinghouse are centered around the needs of our children," said Moorhead, who is Vice Chancellor-Enrollment Services and Student Services at Ivy Tech Community College, Lawrenceburg. "Also, their partnership with Ivy Tech Community College and the Food for Thought Pantry has helped to remove a barrier to continuing education from contributions to our local school districts, in meeting the extra critical food or other essential products students may need."
Among its services, the Clearinghouse's pantry serves more than 2,000 people in Dearborn and Ohio counties. The service includes groceries one time monthly but more during emergencies and lunches every day the Clearinghouse is open.
The service would not exist without the Clearinghouse's 100 volunteers and donations.
