(Lawrenceburg, Ind.) - A $1,000 proactive grant from Dearborn Community Foundation (DCF), Inc. recently helped Hamline Chapel purchase a new freezer to hold donated items for its weekly free public dinner at its High Hope Café.

In its 26th year of helping donors make a difference, DCF is awarding 15 proactive grants of $1,000 each throughout 2024 to charitable organizations that serve Dearborn County residents. Each of the Foundation’s 15 volunteer Board members is recommending a grant. The money comes from the Foundation’s Unrestricted Endowment Funds, established by donors to provide flexibility to address changing needs in the community over the years.

DCF Board member Becky Lyons recommended the grant to Hamline Chapel after hearing the church needed a new freezer, so it could accept more donations for the weekly Wednesday night free dinners it provides at its High Hope Café, 102 High Street, Lawrenceburg. Anyone can attend the dinners for a free meal and a bit of socializing and fellowship.

“The freezer will let them receive more donations for the weekly dinners that provide a free meal and chance for people to visit and socialize,” said Lyons. “So, the grant will help with the freezer and other needs Hamline Chapel has for the dinners.

Lyons said Hamline Chapel does a great job with the community and it just made sense to recommend the grant to help with such a meaningful important community activity. Plus, Lyons says the church holds a special place in her heart, as her parents Bill and Barabara Collins, and she and her husband Andy Lyons were all married at Hamline Chapel.

High Hope Café dinners take place at 5:15 p.m. on Wednesday nights! To contribute or to learn more about Hamline Chapel’s High Hope Café, check out the church’s website: hamline.org.
