DOC Approves New Ripley Co. Jail Fencing

(Versailles, Ind.) - New fencing will help keep inmates at Ripley County Jail in Versailles where they belong.

Last September, two inmates were able to scale a building at the jail’s recreation area and hop the fence, leading to a county-wide manhunt. Those inmates – Stanley Short and Robert Huskey – were both recaptured within 72 hours.

Sheriff Tom Grills recently told Ripley County Commissioners that new fencing at the jail is complete, the Versailles Republican newspaper reports.

The new fencing is capped with razor wire. Grills recommended having the Ripley County Highway Department create signs to warn jail visitors about the razor wire.

The Department of Corrections has approved the new fencing.
