Father Leaves Children In Car At Casino

(Lawrenceburg, Ind.) - A northern Indiana man is in trouble after he left his children in the car while he gambled at a local riverboat casino.

An Indiana Gaming Commission officer on bike patrol in the parking garage at Hollywood Casino in Lawrenceburg spotted two children in a car Sunday, December 18.

The children were ages 12 and 11.

Their father, Freddie R. Shumate, 33, of Hartford City, Indiana, returned after about 40 minutes inside the casino.

Shumate was arrested and charged with Neglect of a Dependant. He bonded out of the Dearborn County Law Enforcement Center on a $500 bond.

Shumate’s next appearance in Dearborn Superior Court I is February 22.
