(Milan, Ind.) – Four Milan High School students have been selected as winners of the prestigious Mortara Family Grant.

Recipients of the grant receive up to $10,000 a year for four years towards pursuing a degree from an accredited college or university.

To be eligible for the grant, students must have a 3.9 or higher GPA, have plans to attend a four-year college or university, submit a written essay, and go through an interview process.

This year’s recipients are:

  • Ellie Knecht, daughter of Steve and Sandy Knecht
  • Ben Riehle, son of Eric and Lisa Riehle
  • Riley Schwipps, daughter of Tim and Rachel Schwipps
  • Trenton Langferman, son of Ryan and Carly Langferman

The Mortara Family Grant was created by the family of Dr. David Mortara in 2015. He is a 1958 graduate of Milan High School and the founder and president of Mortara Instrument, a medical technology company based in Milwaukee, which designs, manufactures, and distributes equipment worldwide.

Dr. Mortara contributes much of his success to the Milan High School community, who supported and facilitated his educational accomplishments. The scholarship is intended to extend similar opportunities to exceptional Milan students pursuing a four-year degree.
