The City established the scholarship to financially aide RSHS graduates in their pursuit of higher education.

(Rising Sun, Ind.) - The Future Generations Scholarship was established within the Ohio County Community Foundation by the City of Rising Sun. The City established the scholarship to financially aide Rising Sun High School graduates in their pursuit of higher education at a 4-year college or university by giving them the opportunity to earn scholarship money during high school, all while serving the Ohio County community.

Students are required to complete community service hours for an organization(s) approved by the Ohio County Community Foundation before the application deadline of their Senior year of high school, as one of the components of the scholarship. The number of hours that are required depends upon the applicant’s graduation year from Rising Sun High School. Students have volunteered over 28,000 since the inception of the scholarship in 2006. Some of the organizations that have benefited from these volunteer hours are the City of Rising Sun, Rising Sun Lions Club, and the Ohio County Health Department.

A total of $66,000 was awarded to Rising Sun High School graduates during the 2024 Future Generations scholarship process. The following students will each receive $2,000 to be paid over two semesters at $1,000 a semester. The recipients are as follows:

Timmi Jones, Jena Thayer, Emma Davis, Emma Levi, Riley Barth, Ashley Bowne, Kolton Smith, Emma Taylor, Josie Bell, Ella Eldridge, Gavin Gilb, Kelsey Hillman, Kate Jenkins, Jonathan Jimenez, Anabel Lillie, Meranda Lozier, Isabel Siekman, Cora Poling, Logan Welzel, Kieran Groover, Sidney Halloran, Kaitlyn Wilson, Cloe Ballard, Nate Elliott, Allison Givan, Megan Hayes, Keira Holbrook, Abbie Kremer, Makenzie McDaniel, Nora Powell, Emma Russell, Rachel Schwing and Alayna Walcott.

The mission of the Ohio County Community Foundation is to build, manage and distribute a lasting source of charitable funds for Ohio County.
