The school board of trustees approved the recommendation on Thursday.

(Lawrenceburg, Ind.) – Lawrenceburg Community School Corporation is changing their masking policy.
The school corporation began the school year with the optional use of face coverings.
On Thursday, the Lawrenceburg Community School Corporation Board of Trustees approved Superintendent Karl Galey’s recommendation to approve a mask mandate for all indoor activities, both curricular and extracurricular.
Last night, the @LawrenceburgCSC Board of Trustees approved my recommendation to approve a mask mandate for all indoor activities (curricular and extracurricular) beginning this coming Monday, August 23, 2021. The attached letter explains the decision; https://t.co/xSVHlE3tT1.

The mandate will go into effect starting Monday, August 23. The mandate will apply to all indoor activities when social distancing of three feet is not possible.
Galey explained the decision in a letter today to parents, students, and staff.
“Wednesday, August 18, 2021, Dr. Eliason, Dearborn County Health Officer, announced he is “strongly recommending masking for all indoor activities in the county when social distancing of three feet is not possible. If a person chooses not to wear a mask, they should quarantine if identified as a close contact.” This is based upon a “very concerning uptick in cases of COVID-19” locally which has placed a “serious strain on our hospital and other hospitals in the area. It is anticipated that all of the area hospitals might reach their full capacity within the next two weeks. We are also seeing more sick children with the delta variant. The delta variant spreads 2-3 times faster than the previous variant, and the number of people infected can double in 8 days,” the letter reads.
Galey added that Lawrenceburg Schools will continue to make decisions based upon local data and recommendations from the Dearborn County Health Department.
As a reminder, close contact will be required to quarantine for 10 days if the individual was not wearing a face covering.
