(Vevay, Ind.) – A former school board member has been tapped by caucus to fill a vacant seat on the Switzerland County Board of Commissioners.
The Switzerland County Democrat Central Committee held a caucus on Monday evening to fill the vacancy on the commission created by the sudden death of commissioner Robbie Smith.
Mark Lohide, of East Enterprise, was selected after three ballots, committee chairman Mike Jones told Eagle 99.3 Tuesday.
Lohide, a former member of the Switzerland County School Board and current president of the Switzerland County School Endowment Board, defeated former county auditor Rachel Bladen Schuler on the third ballot.
Lohide’s first meeting as a county commissioner will be December 5. He will serve for the remainder of Smith’s term, which runs through December 31, 2014.
