(Versailles, Ind.) - A Ripley County man has been sentenced to the maximum punishment following his guilty plead to molesting a child.

Versal Strunk, of Osgood, pleaded guilty in May to a single count of Child Molestating(level 1 felony) in Ripley County court. This week, a judge sentenced the 32-year-old to the 50 years in prison, the maximum sentence requested by Ripley County Prosecutor Ric Hertel.

To provide the judge with aggravating factors to consider in the sentencing, an Indiana State Police detective testified in court about Strunk’s repeated sexual abuse of an eight-year-old child who his wife babysat

According to the prosecutor, many of the victim’s family were present in the courtroom and had to hear many of the terrible details of the sex acts perpetrated against the child. Hertel said that it was extremely difficult and emotional for many of them.

The victim’s parents chose not to address the court but asked that Hertel represent their interests.
