More Frequent Madison Bridge Inspections

Madison-Milton Bridge

(Madison, Ind.) - The deteriorating Madison-Milton bridge will be inspected by engineers once a month starting this month instead of every two months. The stepped-up inspections are a precaution, the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet said in a news release.

"The goal is to keep the Milton-Madison bridge operational during the superstructure replacement project," the press release said. The new bridge on the existing piers is expected to be finished next year. Before then, the bridge will be placed on temporary piers and be used while the old bridge is removed.

After the most recent inspection, the weight limit on the bridge was reduced to 3 tons from 15 tons due to deterioriation observed by the inspectors, the Transportation Cabinet said.

The bridge will be reduced to one lane from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday, April 18 for the inspection. The lane closure is subject to inclement weather.
