(Frankfort, Ky.) – Most Kentucky school districts are continuing to mask up after the General Assembly gave them the option of maintaining masking policies.

The Kentucky General Assembly came together for a special session last week, where they voted to end a statewide mask mandate in Kentucky public schools.

As of Thursday, 81 percent of Kentucky’s 171 school districts have announced they will require all students, staff, and visitors to wear masks after SB1 goes into effect on Friday.

Local school districts keeping the mask requirement in place include:

  • Boone County Schools
  • Erlanger/Elsmere School District
  • Walton-Verona
  • Carroll County

There are 30 school districts throughout the state that have not made a public decision about masks at this time.

Three school districts will not put a mask mandate in place, including Gallatin County Schools. The school district did say in a statement that mask wearing is recommended, and will be provided to students who need or want them.
